Upcoming Changes – costs, payment and where the money goes

Starting in 2024 the price of the league will be changing from $5.00 to $8.00 paid to Charlie Hearne via Paypal, Cash, Credit Card. This is to help ensure the league is self-sustaining with minimum cash infusions. Prize out will still be based on $5.00 entry from previous years, and paid out in store credit from Parker Banner Kent and Wayne. The league will pay Parker Banner Kent and Wayne every Monday night. This will ensure that the LGS is making money on the league, and the league will make money to help fund The Top8 Tournament, The Players Tournament, and the multiple 1ks throughout the year. Any money left over at the end of the year will be moved to the following year’s budget.

The league will also have three ways to pay for entry. There will be weekly entry, a Season Pass, and a Yearly Pass:

Weekly$8.00
Season Pass$97.50
Yearly Pass$364.00

Fiscal Costs and Budget

This year the league had custom playmats made, started recording matches for YouTube, and started a 1k series to help players catch up on points for the added Players Tournament . It also purchased www.charlottelegacyleague.com and hosting to get a website. This was done with a large cash infusion. Below is a breakdown of what was spent this year as of  09/30/2023.

Macbook Pro 14in$1600
Top8 Tournament$1000
Custom playmats$880
Sony ZV-E10$858
Players Tournament$750
Camera Mount$547
Custom playmat painting$500
Website Hosting Yearly $350
1k tournament on 09/10/2023$280
Playmats for Streaming$200
Season 1-4 Playmats $100
Camera Filter$97
Champion Playmats for Top8 Winner$50
Dice$28
Website Domain Name Yearly$25
Total Cost$7265

Moving forward with the new pricing for Monday nights it should help offset some costs for the league. We are basing the average attendance on 24 players per week. These numbers will be based on $8.00 buy in per night and $3.00 going to the league each week.

With no discounts taken into account based on Season and Yearly passes. We should see an average of $72 per week being put into the league account. This will amount to $3,744 per year. This money will pay for the Top8 Tournament, Players Tournament, and fund the 1ks throughout the year. The players tournament will always have a minimum of $500 store credit prize out and $250 store credit bounty all paid out in PBKW Store Credit. The reason the players tournament is paid out in store credit is to give back to the LGS. Any additional left over at the end of the year will be moved into the next year’s budget to help with additional prizes and support the league.

Tournament Structure 2024

Monday Nights

Regular weekly entry will be $8.00, season pass for $97.50, or yearly pass for $364.00 paid via paypal or cash. Prize out will remain the same 3-0 $20 store credit, 2-0-1 $10 store credit, 2-1 $10 store credit. Points will be earned as follows. 1 point for attendance, 3 points for each win, 1 point for each draw. There are a total of 10 points available for each player every Monday night.

Tournament Series 1ks

Entry will be $35. Prize out will be a guaranteed $1,000. Broken down as follows $400 first, $200 second, $100 third/fourth, $50 fifth/eighth. First place will also get an invite to the players tournament at the end of the year. If that player has already qualified, the invite will move down to the next player that hasn’t qualified. If entry exceeds $1,000, $25 will be put into the prize pool per person over what is required to pay for the tournament. The other $10 will be split between the league and the LGS the tournament is being held at. Each player playing in this series will earn 15 points per tournament to go towards their total points for the year earned in the league for the Players Tournament.

Top8 Tournament

First and Second place in each Season of the League will receive an invite to the Top8 tournament in January. If a player who has already qualified for the Top8 gets first or second place, the invite will be moved down to the next player who hasn’t qualified for the Top8. The Top8 tournament is a free entry event. $1,000 prize pool for those eight players. Broken down as follows $400 first, $200 second, $100 third/fourth, $50 fifth/eighth. The winner of the Top8 will also receive a Champion Playmat.

Players Tournament

The players tournament is for all players from the league who earned 125 points throughout the year on Monday nights and at the Tournament series. It is a $500 store credit prize pool broken down as follows: $200 first, $100 second, $50 third/fourth, $25 fifth/eighth and a $25 store credit prize bounty on all Top8 Players from the previous season. The bounty system works as follows: Each Top8 player will have $25 store credit given to them at the beginning of the tournament. If that player is beaten by any player, the player who beat them, will receive the $25 store credit from that Top8 player. This prize cannot be lost to any other player once won*.

*If a Top8 player beats another Top8 player then their prize pool is either increased by $25 (example $25 + $25 = $50) if they haven’t lost or their prize pool is reset and it is available for another player to win. This is only supported until the chop to Top8 in this tournament. All bounties still held by qualifiers are then theirs to keep.

What you can do to help the league

Subscribe to the Youtube channel, like every video, comment on every video.

A Patreon will also be set up by the beginning of the year. While there is no additional value to be gained by donating to the league, it will all go towards prize support and bolstering the league more. This is not something that is expected of anyone. It is only there if you feel you would like to support the league further.

Keep showing up, talk about the league to every magic player you meet, have a great attitude, and most importantly have fun!!
